Work has started on building a new link road to expand Blackpool Airport Enterprise Zone.
Preliminary work to build the road between Amy Johnson Way and Common Edge Road is taking place now, with Jepson Way changing rooms converted into a site compound and some of the initial land cleared.
Work will become more visible in the coming weeks, including the demolition of a house at the corner of School Road and creation of a temporary running lane on Common Edge Road to maintain traffic flow. The work is expected to take 18 months in total and open later next year.
To reduce congestion while the works are taking place, we’ve asked the contractor to maintain two-way traffic without temporary lights as much as possible. To do this, a phasing plan has been created, starting with creating a temporary running lane which traffic can move between as works progress. Watch the video below to see how this will work.
George Cox & Sons is the main contractor on the new road, and has committed to keep local residents updated throughout the works.
They are holding a series of coffee mornings to find out more about the scheme and ask questions.
The first of these coffee mornings will take place on:
If you cannot make these events but have questions, you can also contact the contractor via phone or WhatsApp on 07561 104 802.
This line is not managed 24 hours a day but any questions will be responded to. You can also stay up to date by following the WhatsApp channel (mobiles only), which will be updated as the works progress or by signing up to the newsletter.
