Spitfire Visitor Centre is open again at Blackpool Airport, and people can fly a real Spitfire again this summer.
Based at Hangar 42, the museum is open throughout the summer on Saturdays, Mondays and Tuesdays and has five Spitfire replicas, of various marks.
The collection also includes the Hawker Hurricane MKI and the Messerschmidt bf109e. All aircraft are lovingly restored with original wartime parts, bringing these iconic aircraft back to life.
For a small fee, visitors can take the opportunity to sit in the cockpit of one of the Spitfires and have photographs taken to mark your visit.
A rare collection of wartime RAF Airfield vehicles and ground equipment, are also at the museum, as well as a 1940s NAFFI cafe.
On Saturday open days, the museum hosts tours talks of Lancashire’s’ wartime role. The Lancashire Aircraft Investigation Team provide a fascinating collection of WW2 aircraft crash wrecks, from the P51 Mustang to the Junkers JU88 Bomber.
Entry to the Saturday Public open days are by advance ticket purchase only.
