Work to create a new 3G artificial turf pitch at the Blackpool Airport Enterprise Zone is well under way.
New photos show the installation of the pitches, including the new fencing and floodlights, with the sports pavilion in the background.
This is the second phase of the £5 Million Common Edge Community Sports Village development which includes new changing rooms and spectator pavilion, a floodlit 3G pitch, floodlit rugby pitch and training area, car parking and improved access to the site. The 3G pitch is expected to be completed in the spring, with the new grass rugby pitch ready for use next year.
The first phase of works saw the creation of 12 new grass pitches immediately followed by the construction of the changing facilities and car parking facilities. In order to fully open the new changing rooms and 3G pitch, work is currently taking place to create a new road junction at Division Lane West.
STRI Group delivered the design, and their construction arm, Carrick Construction, undertook the works for the natural grass sports pitches in phase one of development and have been subsequently appointed to deliver and build the new 3G and rugby pitches.
The new road at Division Lane and car parks for changing rooms was supported by funding from Blackpool Town Deal, provided by the government’s Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) in March 2022
